A future-proof approach

Shipping & The Environment

In the quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced by the global shipping industry, several important steps have already been taken. Starting with the amendments to the Marpol Annex VI, imposing limitations on nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions, that were introduced in 2008. Then, in 2020, came the IMO regulations capping sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions.

Following successful implementation of both these regulations, an even more ambitious target has been set for the near future. With the aim of halving CO2 emissions by 2030, the EEXI and CII regulations have been implemented in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Targeting ship design as well as operational performance, new technologies and alternative fuels will find their way into the shipping industry.
